New BRPD Chief To Be Named Soon From Among Five Finalists

Mayor Sharon Weston Broome is expected to name a new chief of the Baton Rouge Police before the end of the year.

The new chief will be chosen from a list of five candidates recommended last month by a search committee the mayor appointed.

The list includes four high-ranking BRPD personnel and a former Lafayette Police chief.

The new chief will face the problems of violent crime and the recruitment and retention of officers.
