An audit has found that the Louisiana Department of Education, or LDOE, needs to make the complaint process for families of students with special needs easier and better
According to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, nearly 13 percent of students in kindergarten to 12th grade needed special education services as of October 2022
The report said 61 formal complaints were investigated in the 2021-22 school year, but not all allegations were addressed.
Auditors said LDOE got 42 emails through its dispute resolution email but didn't investigate the allegations.
The audit report said nine emails were responded to, 13 did not get a response, and that LDOE did not give evidence regarding how they responded to 20 emails.
