A new monument honoring African American military veterans is now in place on the Southern University campus.

Gov. John Bel Edwards joined federal, state and local officials on Wednesday for the dedication of the Louisiana Heritage Monument.

The bronze monument is the creation of New Orleans artist Sheleen Jones.

It's more than nine-feet tall and 12-feet wide, and it depicts military heroes from the American Revolution through the Space Force, including the Tuskegee Airmen and the Buffalo Soldiers.
