Baton Rouge Pro Hockey Team Name Revealed As Zydeco

The name of Baton Rouge's new hockey team was revealed as the Zydeco Thursday.

"By choosing the name Zydeco, we are honoring the rich history and traditions that have shaped Louisiana’s community. We believe in creating a sports team that not only excels on the ice but also reflects the unique culture and spirit of Baton Rouge," said team owner Barry Soskin.

The Baton Rouge Zydeco will take to the ice this October at the Raising Cane's River Center, which will hold 7,750 in its hockey configuration.

River Center general manager Wayne Hodes said, "We wanted a name that truly represents the spirit and energy of both Baton Rouge and Louisiana, and Zydeco captures that essence perfectly. This team will bring the exciting sport of hockey to the capital city while also offering affordable entertainment in an exhilarating environment for the fans."

The Zydeco will play in the Federal Prospects Hockey League, which features teams stretching from Biloxi to Connecticut.

Season tickets sales are now open for the Zydeco, starting at $336 with a $50 deposit.
