A highway in Ascension Parish is undergoing a major upgrade in order to handle industrial growth in the area.
Construction started in February on a multi-billion-dollar project to widen State Highway 70 to a four-lane divided highway between State Highway 22 and the Sunshine Bridge.
The state Department of Transportation and Development says daily traffic volume on the highway is expected to increase from 33,000 to 50,000 in the next 20 years.
The project should be finished by about two years from now.
