A Metro Councilwoman is introducing an ordinance to ban balloon releases in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Laurie Adams's new ordinance, which will be introduced at Wednesday's Metro Council meeting, would ban the deliberate release of ten or more balloons into the sky at vigils or celebrations of life. Violations would involve fines.

Adams says the balloons fall into people's yards and also woods, streams, and waterways.

She recommends tree plantings and candlelight vigils as better ways to honor the memory of a loved one.
