A state lawmaker from Monroe wants to end affirmative action in Louisiana.

Republican State Senator Jay Morris has introduced a bill that would bar colleges and universities from considering an applicant's race, sex, or national origin in the admissions process.

Morris says college admissions should be based on merit, including test scores.

He says admission based partly on an applicant's race is unfair, and that diversity is being used as an excuse to discriminate on the basis of things such as political philosophy.
