State transportation officials say construction of the Intracoastal Bridge in West Baton Rouge Parish now faces delays.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development started Phase One of the project nearly a year ago.
A spokesman for the agency says some of the piers were settling into the soil more than was expected.
The piers are being shored up to prevent further sinking, but the project will be delayed ten months as a result.
