The arrival of crawfish season was marked Tuesday in Breaux Bridge with the 7th Annual Pardoning of the Crawfish.

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, who created the event in 2017, joined members of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board for the event at Parc Des Ponts Breaux along Bayou Teche.

Similar to the White House pardon of a Thanksgiving turkey, the event pardons Firmin the Crawfish, named for Firmin Breaux, who built the first footbridge across Bayou Teche.
