Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise is standing firm in his support for Kevin McCarthy of California as Speaker of the House.
The GOP took control of the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, but McCarthy has failed to win the necessary 218 votes in repeated attempts.
Weeks ago, Republicans selected Scalise to serve as the Majority Leader, the second-highest position in the House.
Scalise may come under pressure to seek the speakership himself if McCarthy can't round up the votes he needs.
