A couple of New Orleans-area incumbent Congressmen are on their way back to D.C. for another term. Republican Steve Scalise of Metairie won reelection to the 1st Congressional District with 72 percent of the vote, defeating Democratic and Libertarian challengers.

Democrat Troy Carter of New Orleans defeated his GOP opponent with 74 percent of the vote to win in the 2nd District.

Scalise is in line to become the House Majority Leader if the GOP captures the House when all the votes in Tuesday's midterms are counted.

U.S. Sen. John Kennedy keeps his seat following Tuesday's midterms.

The Republican defeated a dozen challengers in his bid for a second six-year term, including three Democrats who all had their party's endorsement. Kennedy won with 71 percent of the vote, topping Democratic rivals Luke Mixon, Gary Chambers Jr., and Syrita Steib.

His other challengers included a Libertarian, an independent, another Democrat, and even another Republican.

Republican incumbent Clay Higgins will serve a fourth term in Congress after winning reelection to Louisiana's 3rd District on Tuesday.

Higgins defeated seven other candidates, including three Republicans, two Democrats, a Libertarian and an independent.

He won 64 percent of the vote, so he won't face a runoff.

The 3rd Congressional District includes Acadia, Calcasieu, Cameron, Iberia, Jeff Davis, Lafayette, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion Parishes, including the cities of Lafayette and Lake Charles.

Also winning re-election, Republicans Juila Lelow in the 5th Congressional District and Garrett Graves in the 6th.
