Karl Makes Move Towards Mexico Landfall

Tropical Storm Karl is now slowly moving south-southeastward towards the coast of Mexico.

As of Thursday morning, Karl's maximum winds were at 50 mph. A tropical storm warning is in effect from Alvarado to Ciudad del Carmen.

Karl is forecast to make landfall by Saturday morning and then rapidly weaken.

Here are the key messages for Karl from the National Hurricane Center as of 10 a.m. Thursday:

Heavy rainfall associated with Karl could produce flash flooding, with mudslides in areas of higher terrain, across portions of Veracruz, Tabasco, Chiapas, and Oaxaca states in Mexico.
Tropical storm conditions are expected to begin within a portion of the warning area in Mexico by late Friday.

The NHC is also watching an area south of the Cabo Verde Islands for possible development.

"Environmental conditions appear marginally favorable for some slow development of this system as it moves westward to west-northwestward at 5 to 10 mph over the tropical Atlantic through early next week," said forecasters.

The 2022 Atlantic hurricane season ends November 30.
