Some solar-powered parking meters are coming to downtown Baton Rouge, replacing the existing coin-operated meters.

The Downtown Development District announced Wednesday that about 100 Flowbird meters will be placed throughout September, mostly in the central business district.

The meters will accept payment via coin, card, or the Flowbird app.

The app enables people to reserve parking or find a parking spot, and alerts users when their time is expiring.

The new meters will cover about 850 parking spaces.
