The Baton Rouge to New Orleans rail project is the recipient of a $20 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome said the funds will be used to buy the real estate for the Baton Rouge and Gonzales train stations, and then to design and build them.

Broome says the proposed passenger train will also include stations in LaPlace, Louis Armstrong International Airport, and in downtown New Orleans.
