Former Louisiana state Senator Karen Carter Peterson is expected to admit to federal wire fraud charges.

Prosecutors announced the charges against the New Orleans Democrat Thursday in a bill of information. A bill of information typically means the defendant will plead guilty.

She's accused of using campaign funds to pay for personal expenses including gambling.

Peterson promises she's repaid funds used for gambling and tweeted an apology saying she's sorry for letting her gambling addiction get the best of her.

Peterson says she's cooperating with federal prosecutors and hopes to make amends.
