Five waterways are to be cleared out in East Baton Rouge Parish as a flood control project.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will clear obstructions out of 50 miles of five major tributaries that drain three-quarters of the parish.
GOP Congressman Garret Graves says obstacles in the waterways keep them from draining properly.
The parish will spend about a quarter of a billion dollars clearing out Jones Creek, Ward Creek, Bayou Fountain, Beaver Bayou, and Blackwater.
