The East Baton Rouge Metro Council is postponing for two weeks a vote on an ordinance that would outlaw camping on public property.

One council member stated at Wednesday's meeting that they need time to rewrite the ordinance's language. Another member said the council needs to take a closer look at the legality of the proposal.

The Baton Rouge Police Department says the misdemeanor ordinance would be unenforceable.

A legal counsel from the parish says such an ordinance would be unconstitutional.
