Louisiana lawmakers will soon head back to the Capitol for another special session to redraw the state's congressional districts.
The U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals lifted an administrative stay Sunday on an order for the state to draw a new congressional map with a second black-majority district.
Gov. John Bel Edwards issued a statement thanking the court for its decision.
"This has always been a straightforward case of simple math, simple fairness and the rule of law," Gov. Edwards added. "According to the U.S. Census, African Americans make up nearly one-third of the voting population in Louisiana, and therefore, we should have a second majority minority congressional district."
The special session should get started on Wednesday of this week.
