Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards believes a bill allowing the prosecution of women who get an abortion is not pro-life.

Edwards told the Baton Rouge Rotary Club today there are better ways to limit abortion without possibly putting a mother behind bars.

The Governor says he'd veto House Bill 813 if it made it out of the Louisiana Legislature because it's unconstitutional.

The bill sponsored by Oil City Representative Danny McCormick is opposed by groups like Louisiana Right to Life and Louisiana Family Forum.

Meanwhile, backers of the bill say they plan to strip the language that would have led to mothers facing murder charges.

Parts of the bill that would've banned certain forms of birth control are reportedly out too.

Instead, Republicans want to pursue prison time and penalties for abortion providers.

The bill comes up for consideration tomorrow in the state legislature.
