The trial challenging the incorporation of the City of St. George continues today in the 19th Judicial District Courthouse.
In October 2019, more than half the local voters chose to establish the city in the unincorporated southern part of East Baton Rouge Parish.
Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome and Mayor Pro Tem Lamont Cole are the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, which claims the creation of the new city will cost Baton Rouge millions in tax revenues.
If it prevails, St. George will be the fifth-largest city in Louisiana.
