Beauregard Town Residents Split Over Proposed Historic District Designation

Residents of Beauregard Town are divided as to whether the area should be named a historic district.

Signs in front yards express opposition to the Beauregard Town Civic Association's plan to obtain the special designation.

The area is one of Baton Rouge's oldest neighborhoods, with homes dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Supporters say they want to preserve the neighborhood's historic character. Opponents are concerned about possible restrictions and penalties.

A city commission will study the matter in July.
