Retired BR Deputy Police Chief Is New Head Of Security For Parish Schools

A former Baton Rouge police official is coming out of retirement to take a top role with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

The district introduced retired Deputy Police Chief Robert McGarner as the new Director of School Security on Thursday.

McGarner says one of the first things he plans to do is to conduct a risk assessment for a mile around every middle and high school in Baton Rouge.

He also plans to place at least one school resource officer on every campus by the fall semester.
