Severe Weather Threat Tuesday For South Louisiana

The focus is once again on south Louisiana for a potential several weather threat on Tuesday that includes the possibility of tornadoes.

"All the ingredients (moisture, instability, lift and spin in the atmosphere) look to be in place for the favorable development of supercell thunderstorms (rotating storms that produce significant weather)," says BRProud meteorologist Bryan Ramsey. "Strong, damaging winds, large hail, heavy downpours and tornadoes all look possible. Some of the tornadoes could be significant meaning they could strengthen to EF2+ strength or become long-track tornadoes."

"A flood watch is also in place for tomorrow meaning flooding conditions are possible given the heavy bursts of rain sometimes seen in severe thunderstorms," Ramsey added. "The worst of it is timed for Tuesday afternoon and evening with the event beginning around noon. It should clear the area by midnight."

After the severe weather moves through, Ramsey says to expect cooler temperatures with highs near 70 and overnight lows in the 40s.
