Mayor Sharon Weston Broome is announcing steps she's taking to deal with the rising crime rate in Baton Rouge.
Broome is putting into effect a formal East Baton Rouge Parish Violence Reduction Collaborative that will included state and local agencies, along with the Justice Department.
The idea is to come up with both short-term and long-term strategies to reduce violent crime.
The Mayor's Office says the multi-year project starts with a workshop hosted by the Justice Department early next month.
