U.S. Congressman Garret Graves is announcing a project to elevate 51 Livingston Parish properties that are at risk of flooding.
The Baton Rouge Republican stated on Wednesday that the project will be funded by nearly $1.8 million in federal grants.
Graves says he believes flood prevention is a better idea than higher flood insurance rates.
He says the new project will complement other regional flood control projects, for which billions of dollars have already been secured.
