FEMA workers are going door-to-door in areas of East Baton Rouge Parish hard-hit by Hurricane Ida to make sure people get the help they need.

They ask homeowners if they've filed for federal assistance, and will help sign up people who need to apply but haven't done so.

FEMA says assistance for repairs is only available for uninsured or underinsured homeowners.

Insured homeowners are urged to file an insurance claim first as FEMA assistance won't help cover deductibles.
