omeowners whose houses flooded in 2016 may soon have to make changes to their residence or pack up.

On Thursday, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced that she will be sending out letters to residents advising them to elevate their homes, sell them to the government to be demolished or take other actions to prevent flooding in the future.

Officials say the letters, which will be sent out today, are required after the city-parish failed to follow FEMA rules following the flood five years ago.

A total of 1,750 homes are being targeted.
