A local activist is suing the East Baton Rouge Metro Council over the Alton Sterling settlement.
Mary Jane Marcantel claims the Metro Council violated Louisiana's open meetings law when it offered the multi-million-dollar settlement to the Sterling family.
Marcantel is now asking the 19th Judicial District Court to void the approval of the settlement.
The lawsuit comes a few weeks after state Attorney General Jeff Landry's office issued an opinion rejecting Marcantel's claims.
