The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season has spawned another tropical depression that is expected to strengthen quickly into the next named storm, Iota.
The National Hurricane Center says the soon-to-be named system could be close to major hurricane status as it approaches the coast of central America and makes landfall in an area already struck hard by Hurricane Eta.
"Flooding and landslides from heavy rainfall could be significant across Central America given recovery efforts underway after Hurricane Eta," said the NHC.
This system is not forecast to enter the Gulf of Mexico.
