The family of an 11-year-old boy who stole a school bus for a joyride earlier this month says they want him sent to a mental health facility.

Attorneys representing the juvenile entered a not guilty plea for him yesterday during a virtual court hearing that set a trial date of December 7.

The boy's family said he has a history of running away, which is why they favor mental health care.

The minor is accused of stealing the bus on October 11 near Progress Head Start, then taunting police during a chase that ended in a crash on Greenwell Springs Road.
