Weeks after signing an order requiring masks inside local businesses, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome says the area is seeing a smaller percentage of residents testing positive for the virus.
On Thursday, the mayor's office issued a statement saying that East Baton Rouge has a 9% positivity rate this week compared to the 13% positivity rate in the weeks leading up to the order. Broome called the decreased rate a "large step in the right direction."
The order went into effect July 3 and is scheduled to expire August 3.
