The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board is approving changing the name of Lee High School to Liberty Magnet High School.
The Board voted on the name last night, which was one of three choices recommended by a renaming committee that narrowed the choices down from over 5,000 submitted by the public.
The school was originally named for General Robert E. Lee, who led Confederate forces against the United States in the Civil War.
Liberty was chosen over two other finalists, Louisiana Magnet High School and PBS Pinchback Magnet High School.
