Officials in East Feliciana Parish say they will meet on July 6th to decide the fate of a Confederate statue outside the courthouse.

Members of the Parish Police Jury met yesterday and voted to come back next Monday and figure out what will happen to the monument.

Erected in 1909, it was a cause of controversy in 2018 when an African-American defendant asked for a change of venue to a courthouse without what they called a racist monument.

Parish Police Jury President Louis Kent says he is in favor of removing the statue to a location with a better historical context.
