BREC Pushes To Remove Connie Bernard As Board Liaison

Leaders for Baton Rouge's parks and recreation system will send East Baton Rouge Parish School Board president Mike Gaudet a formal request to remove board member Connie Bernard.

Members of BREC issued the request to have Bernard removed as the school system's appointed BREC liaison following her comments implying members of the public needed to do more research into the legacy of confederate commander Robert E. Lee.

Bernard's removal or continued appointment as the school board's liaison falls under the discretion of board president Gaudet.

Should Gaudet choose not to remove Bernard as the school board's liaison to BREC, Bernard's term would expire December 31st, 2020.

The virtual meeting that was briefly hijacked by outside agitators known as Zoom-bombers. As board members discussed the topic of removal, the hackers began shouting racial slurs and projecting pornographic images forcing the session to be moved from a public to a private forum.
