Tropical Storm Cristobal is blowing toward the Louisiana coast with maximum sustained winds of up to 50 miles-per-hour.
The National Hurricane Center says tropical-storm-force winds of at least 40 miles-per-hour are predicted when Cristobal makes landfall today in eastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi.
Tropical waterspouts and tornadoes are also possible from Louisiana to Florida.
NOAA's Weather Prediction Center is warning there's a "high risk" of excessive rainfall and flooding through tonight in southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi, including New Orleans. The heavy rain could persist into Monday.
Up to eight inches of rain is predicted for the lower Mississippi Valley through Tuesday.
