The first tropical depression of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season arrived on Saturday, well early of the season's official June 1 start.
As of Saturday afternoon, the depression was located about 125 miles east of Melbourne, Florida with maximum winds of 35 miles per hour, moving north-northeast at 13 miles per hour.
Tropical Depression One is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Arthur by Sunday, which prompted a tropical storm watch for part of the North Carolina coast. The National Hurricane Center said that area could see tropical storm-force winds and rains on Monday.
The system is not a threat to Louisiana.
