One Baton Rouge Police officer is dead, and another is clinging to life following a shootout on Sunday afternoon.
Officials say the officers were involved in a shooting around 4 p.m. at home off Conrad Drive with Ryan Kato, who was wanted for an earlier homicide.
As the officers arrived at the house, Kato allegedly began firing at them from ambush, killing a yet identified 21-year veteran of the department and critically wounding his partner who has been with the force for seven-years.
Kato then barricaded himself inside the building and was taken into custody several hours later.
East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome has asked flags fly at half-staff at all city buildings in honor of the officers.
