The Louisiana Department of Health is taking extra precaution after the CDC said the coronavirus is potentially becoming a pandemic.
Director Jennifer Avegno said yesterday that the risk of visitors to New Orleans carrying the virus with them is extremely low.
Avegno says the CDC monitors travelers coming in from virus hot-spots and routes them to specific airports that do not include MSY.
According to officials with the Port of Orleans, cruise lines are also actively monitoring coronavirus cases, and ships under threat would not be allowed to dock.
