BRPD Officer Walks Free Following Death Of Pedestrian Struck In Road

Gavel and scales of justice

The Baton Rouge police officer involved in the death of a pedestrian who was struck on Florida Boulevard in June of 2017 is a free man.

According to the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's office, a judge declined to indict Frederick Thornton yesterday for his role in the collision that killed Phillip Clark.

Witnesses say Thorton was on duty at the time of the crash but was not responding to a call when he struck Clark, nor did he have his lights on.

The police veteran was initially placed on paid administrative leave but has since been reinstated.
