Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden got into a tense exchange with a voter during a town hall meeting in New Hampton, Iowa. The man, who only identified himself as an 83-year-old farmer, told Biden that he was "too old" to be president and then accused Biden of helping get his son a role on the board of a Ukrainian gas company.
āYou, on the other hand, sent your son over there to get a job and work for a gas company and [who] had no experience in natural gas,ā the farmer said. āYouāre selling access to the president just like [Trump] is.ā
Biden lost his cool and called the man "a damn liar."
āYouāre a damn liar, man. Thatās not true. And no one has ever said that,ā Biden retorted.
Biden asserted that he was fit enough physically and mentally to be president and challenged the man, saying, "Letās do push-ups together here, man. Letās run. Letās do whatever you want to do. Letās take an IQ test."
After a testy back and forth exchange, the man said: āWell, Iām not voting for you."
Biden acknowledged that fact and then took another swipe at the man's age.
āWell, I knew you werenāt,ā Biden said. āYouāre too old to vote for me.ā
The crowd cheered Biden's remark, and the man returned to his seat. After the town hall was over, Biden told reporters that he was defending his son and that he did not lose to his temper.
āI didnāt lose my temper. You want to see my temper, keep going,ā Biden said. āI didnāt lose my temper. What I wanted to do was shut this down.ā
