Tropical Depression Forms In Gulf Friday

The 17th tropical depression of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season formed in the Gulf of Mexico Friday morning.

The system's life as a tropical system is expected to be brief, as it will merge with a cold front in the next 12 hours, becoming a post-tropical depression or possibly a named storm. The National Hurricane Center says it will be a "gale-force post tropical low" as it makes it way towards the northern Gulf Coast.

No matter its future, the impact remains the same for Louisiana - added tropical moisture adding to what was already expected to be a rainy Friday into Saturday thanks to the front moving through our area.

The local NWS office notes a flash flood watch remains in effect through Saturday afternoon. "Rainfall amounts of two to four inches will be common with locally higher amounts possible. These amounts over relatively short periods of time will likely cause some flash flooding."
