Gulf Could See Short-Lived Tropical Depression

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is warning of a tropical system forming in the Gulf of Mexico south of Texas.

Satellite images taken this morning show the circulation of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche has become better defined.

Experts say the system could become a short-lived tropical depression, but it's expected to merge with a cold front by late Friday.

The chance of becoming a tropical depression in the next 48 hours in 50%.

The National Weather Service in New Orleans says the biggest concern for our area will be how much tropical moisture is pulled northward ahead of our next cold front.
