It's expected to be Tropical Storm Humberto by Saturday, but as of Friday at 10 a.m., the National Hurricane Center said it was still Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine.
Questions remain on the eventual path of the system. The forecast has continued to shift east and may shift further as satellite images suggest a center of circulation might be forming more to the right of the current forecast position.
Tropical storm warnings are in effect for parts of the Bahamas and a tropical storm watch is in place for part of the Florida coast.
While the potential tropical cyclone could reach hurricane strength, it might not happen until after the system has meandered out over the Atlantic.
The system is not expected to enter the Gulf of Mexico at this time.
