Public Service Commission Ends Metering Credits For Future Solar Customers

The Louisiana Public Service Commission is ending one-for-one net-metering credits for all future solar panel customers.

The commission voted 3-2 yesterday to end the credits, which means future solar customers will now need to buy power that their own panels have produced and loaned to the grid.

Officials say an estimated 27,000 existing rooftop solar customers will not be affected by the new rule because they will be grandfathered in under the old terms for a period of 15 years.

Opponents of the commission's decision said the new rule would send hundreds of high-tech jobs out of Louisiana and make it harder for residents to lower their energy bills.
