Dorian Now A Hurricane

Dorian reached hurricane strength Wednesday afternoon with max winds of 75 miles per hour.

Hurricane force winds were reported in St. Thomas as Dorian moved to its west as of the 1 p.m. CDT advisory.

Hurricane warnings are in effect for the Virgin Islands, Vieques and Culebra. Puerto Rico remains under a hurricane watch and a tropical storm warning.

The National Hurricane Center continues to warn of further strengthening of Dorian over the coming days as it moves over warm waters in the Atlantic and Caribbean. It's possible that Dorian could be a major category 3 storm off the Florida coast by Labor Day.
