Settlement Reached For Former BRPD Officer Involved In Sterling Death

A settlement has been reached between the Baton Rouge Police Department and the officer fired for the shooting of Alton Sterling in 2016.

Officer Blaine Salamoni filed an appeal after he was fired for violating department policy after shooting Sterling six times.

Under the settlement, Salamoni's termination will be replaced with a formal resignation, so long as the appeal is withdrawn.

Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul issued an apology to the both the family of Sterling and to the city of Baton Rouge, saying Salamoni never should have been hired as an officer.
