A work trip to Port Allen put a 27-year veteran deputy in the right place at the right time to save a pregnant woman.
Lieutenant Ken Albarez reached stopped traffic on the Interstate 10 bridge Monday morning to find a woman had abandoned her van and was threatening to jump into the Mississippi River 130-feet below.
The woman, who was seven months pregnant, relayed she had been having relationship troubles with her boyfriend.
Albarez inched closer over the 40 minute conversation before lunging to grab the woman's hand and pulling her to safety.
