State Audit: Former SU Band Director Pocketed University Money

Louisiana Legislative Auditor Audit

The state of Louisiana says a former Southern University band director pocketed money meant for the university, according to a recent audit.

The audit reports that Nathan Haymer received more than $293,000 by collecting public funds for Southern by contracting with a third party.

Haymer made a portion from Mardi Gars krewes for the Human Jukebox to perform while also filing invoices to SU and associated foundations for expenses he did not incur.

The university fired Haymer last year when he could not answer their questions about program money.

The audit recommended several changes in order to prevent a similar situation from happening again.
