Third Tropical Depression Of Atlantic Season Forms Near Bahamas

The third tropical depression of the season has formed near the Bahamas, the National Hurricane Center said Monday afternoon.

It was a quick turn of events for an area of showers and storms that had only a low chance of development Monday morning.

The system had maximum winds of 30 miles per hour as it moved northwest at 13 miles per hour.

Forecasters say the depression is in a marginally favorable area for further development and its maximum winds should stay just below tropical storm strength before it falls apart in the coming days.

While rainfall amounts of one to three inches across the Bahamas and the east coast of Florida are possible through Tuesday, the center of the system and its heaviest winds are expected is expected to remain offshore.

No watches or warnings are in effect as of the 4 p.m. CDT advisory from the NHC.

The depression is not expected to be a threat for the Gulf Coast.
