Navy Airman's Remains Returned Home To Baton Rouge

US Navy

The remains of a naval airman killed off the coast of Japan in 2017 has been returned to Louisiana.

The Department of Defense confirmed yesterday that Matthew Chialastri had been reunited with his family following an 18-month search for his body.

Chialsatri was part of a training mission near Okinawa when the aircraft crashed, killing him and two other sailors.

The Navy located his remains inside the wreckage of the aircraft at a depth of 18,000 feet, making it the deepest recovery effort in U.S. Navy history.
